UMC Utrecht receives EUR 4 million for first Dutch study of personalized phage therapy for recurrent UTI
UMC Utrecht has received a 4 million euro grant from the Promising Care scheme of the National Healthcare Institute and ZonMw for the first clinical study in the Netherlands of customized bacteriophage therapy for recurrent urinary tract infections (PhageR-UTI). The study will include 150 people, half receiving a phage selected for their own bacteria and half a saline control, and it will be at least a year before patients can be included; a significant part of the grant sets up GMP production of bacteriophages at UMC Utrecht.
