CRISPRi-ART probes phage genes by targeting their RNA
CRISPRi-ART uses dCas13d to bind specific phage mRNAs and stop production of the proteins they encode. By shutting off different phage proteins, researchers can identify which are essential for infection and investigate what they do. The method is described in a Nature Microbiology paper from the Doudna and Cress labs.
