NASA Crew-11 research preview includes Genes in Space-12, a student experiment on microgravity effects on bacteria and bacteriophages

NASA's July 15, 2025 research preview for the SpaceX Crew-11 mission lists Genes in Space-12, a student-designed DNA experiment that examines the effects of microgravity on interactions between certain bacteria and bacteriophages, among investigations flying to the International Space Station. Genes in Space co-founder Scott Copeland of Boeing says it could establish a foundation for using phages to treat bacterial infections in space and reduce dependence on antibiotics; miniPCR bio's Dr. Ally Huang adds that phages produced in space could have implications for human health and microbial control.
