Yuping Li (University of Basel) wins €1.5M ERC Starting Grant on bacterial sensing of jumbophages

Professor Yuping Li of the Biozentrum, University of Basel, has received a European Research Council Starting Grant, funded with 1.5 million euros over five years, to study how bacteria detect and defend themselves against jumbophages, giant phages with exceptionally large genomes. The project aims to unravel how a bacterial sensor recognizes phage-specific proteins and what roles these proteins play during the viruses' infection.
